Day with the Basics: The Cuevas Fam

We had the chance to collab with creative super-parents and DIY aficionados Bethany and Jorge Cuevas for some snaps and clips of our Spring collection, and we couldn't have been more heart-eyed at how everything turned out!

We recently caught up with the dynamic duo and chatted about their fam, their creative process (and how they involve their three ADORBS little ones in the process), as well as how they stay balanced and inspired.

The first step is always to focus inwardly: keeping our heart, soul and mind healthy— after that it's just a series of decisions, recognizing our limitations and doing the best we can with what we have that day.

Q: Tell us about you + your fam! Where are you & your husband from? What do you do for a living and why are your kids so CUTE?! Jk, but really tho ;)
A: Heyyy : ) I (Bethany) am from NY and Jorge is from OC— and then there are our 3 little treasures—  Zara, Billie and Margot.

Together we founded Teddy, a happy little content studio currently based here in Costa Mesa.

Q: Your home and style are so FUN! Any advice on where to start for us not-so-natural DIYers?

A: The decision to make our home work for us and us only was the beginning of it all. Once we gave ourselves that license, the freedom— that we were the only ones that had to like it, the creative flow happened! I think also just accepting that mistakes are going to happen and it's just a sunk cost of trying something new!  My advice is be safe but also GO FOR IT! It's really fun and invigorating.

Q: Do your kiddos get involved in the design process? How do you balance (or juggle) working, remodeling, creating + 3 little ones?
A: We definitely discuss everything with them around and they chirp in for sure! Zara especially has started doing a lot of her own design— building and creating her own little “worlds” while she’s playing.

Oh balance… well— I think that's a very rare occurrence— mainly we’re just sliding from one extreme to the other and skipping over balance. Lol but we TRY!

I think all of the areas are integrated, they all feed one another and each have their own set of priorities. We try to put our ear to the ground and see what needs our attention most that day/week/month/year and go from there. The first step is always to focus inwardly: keeping our heart, soul and mind healthy— after that it's just a series of decisions, recognizing our limitations and doing the best we can with what we have that day.

What inspires you? Top 3 creative must-follow IG/TikTok accounts?
I think when an artist can create a vibe and replicate it in different scenarios, that's really inspiring to me because it is not easy. Doing something once is one thing but repeating it in different ways, new annotations— it's much harder.

Does your fam have any favorite bathtime or skincare rituals?
Bath time is a PARTY most of the time! There's always 2 or 3 together and they have so much fun— especially if there are bubbles involved.

Thank you so much to the Cuevas fam for chatting (and sharing their talents and sweet little ones) with us!

Check out other Day with the Basics features to meet more mamas (like Hannah Carpenter and Alexis & Chante of Let's Talk Sis!)
