Mama Minute with Fernanda Romero

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're thrilled to sit down with actress, author, and mama of two, Fernanda Romero. As the creator of Pachi—her first children's book helping kids learn English and Spanish through stories and song—Fernanda knows a thing or two about weaving culture and language into everyday life. In her home, Hispanic heritage isn't confined to a single month—it plays a part in daily rituals. We caught up with Fernanda to talk about the traditions she holds close, her parenting wins, and why family will always come first.

How do you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in your household?

For me, Hispanic heritage is something we celebrate year-round at home. With my kids, it shows up in everyday traditions—through the music and cartoons I grew up with, the food we cook together (like Sunday chilaquiles), and the stories we share. It’s not just a month, it’s a constant presence and conversation in our home.

What traditions are you most excited to pass down to your boys?

As a traditional Mexican family, the most important value I want to pass on is that family comes first. Eating together, sharing, and spending time with one another is the true heart of our home.

What's your go-to comfort meal?

My go-to comfort foods are chia pudding or a warm chicken consomé with rice.

What’s one parenting win you’ve had recently?

Recently, my son told me that “everyone deserves second chances.” Seeing him be kind, respectful, and empathetic toward his friends and caring for nature and animals makes me very proud—it’s those little moments that feel like big wins.

How do you balance English and Spanish in your daily conversations at home?

We naturally switch back and forth between Spanish and English every day. And now, since my husband is Italian, we’ve added a third language into the mix! It can be a lot, but somehow it just flows and works.

Early bird or night owl? (And how has motherhood changed this?)

I’m definitely an early bird. I love waking up with the first rays of sunshine and setting daily, weekly, and monthly goals that keep me motivated and productive.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've Googled as a mom?

What’s the trick to getting all that baby gel and oil out of little hair—without making bath time feel like a wrestling match?

Any Tubby Todd products you find yourself reaching for time + time again?

The All Over Ointment is a true holy grail in our house. The Lavender & Rosemary Hair and Body Wash is also a family favorite. And the Everyday Lotion is a must for the kids at night!
