Andrea's 5 Tips for a Healthy New Year

Tis the season for resolutions but sometimes the words "resolution" and "goal" have a heavy, overwhelming connotation to them. So, let's talk about some habits that we are going to integrate into our day in 2018, to help us feel our best in the upcoming year.

1. Dry Brushing

Dry brushing has been around for centuries, but really made a name for itself around 2010.  Dry brushing is said to boost circulation, sweep away dead skin cells, stimulate the lymph nodes, improve digestion, improve the appearance of cellulite, and help the cells and body in general remove waste.  After a shower, simply use a natural bristle body brush, and beginning at the feet, rub your skin upwards toward your heart in circular motions. . Similarly, when you start on your arms, begin at the hands and work upward. Use firm, small strokes upwards, or work in a circular motion.  Not only is dry brushing good for you, it feels like a little massage!

2. Adaptogens

Adaptogens are essentially pharmalogical herbs - usually ground into powders - that when taken, act to balance physiological processes in the body.  Andrea recently learned about adaptogens while trying Moon Juice, but has since begun creating her own mixtures, featuring mushroom and collagen (more on collagen below).

3. Freshening Spray

Sometimes a busy mama, the healthiest thing we can do for ourselves is get clean (amirite?).  But with new babies and busy schedules we know its not always possible to shower with every diaper blowout.  Our Mama Freshening Spray smells of lovely vanilla and aloe.   Spray on your skin to freshen up after the gym, or a quick walk around the neighborhood.  Or spray on your clothing after you've been spit up on, or just to smell a little better.

4. Collagen

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, accounting for 1/3 of our body's total protein, and 70% of the protein in our skin!  It provides the structure in connective tissue and is found in our bones, tendons, ligaments, gut, hair, and nails.  Adding a Collagen supplement in 2018 will help with improved skin elasticity, and wrinkle reduction*healthier hair and nails, improved wound healing, a decrease in cellulite, and even speedier recovery from injury, and might also help with post-exercise recovery.

5. Walking

Good ol' walking.  Sometimes it seems too easy, but the benefits of walking have been proven over and over again.  A brisk 30 minute walk can help you loose weight, or maintain a healthy weight, increase blood circulation, improve mood, and prevent various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes!  Plus it's a great way to wear the kids out before bath time!
