Hey mamas, Lindsay from @thelittlemilkbar_ here. I’m SUPER excited to be taking over The Mama Blog today to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. In case you didn’t already know, WBFW is every year Aug 1 - 7. It’s our favorite time of the year. (I’ll be hanging out in stories too, so come say hi)

And if you don’t already know me… I’m Lindsay, owner of @thelittlemilkbar_and founder of the #dropthecover movement. Our mission is to empower breastfeeding mothers everywhere. To give you permission to feed your baby whenever and wherever you need to.

First thing to cross off the list today… did you know that it’s your legal right to breastfeed your baby with or without a cover in all 50 states? The law is behind you mama. No more wondering… ‘can I feed her here?’... because the answer is always YES!

I’ll let you in on a little secret, most people don’t even care. Breastfeeding in public can be scary, especially if it’s your first time. So let me give all you first timers a few tips:

1. Use the 2 shirt method
Wear a cami under your shirt and when it comes time to feed, pull up your shirt and pull the neck of your cami down. Voila, no extra skin exposed.

2. Practice at home
Next time friends and family come to visit. Instead of going in the nursery to feed, stay right there on your couch and feed while you continue to visit.

3. Try using a nursing cover
Nursing covers can be great training wheels for first timers. Who knows maybe one day you’ll feel comfortable enough to #dropthecover.

4. Find a nice quiet spot to feed
Instead of standing in the middle of a huge crowded area, find a seat off to the side away from the chaos so you can focus on you and your baby.

5. Make sure that your partner is there and by your side
It can relieve a lot of unnecessary stress. Let your partner know how worried you are about feeding in a public place and how much it means to you to have their support.

6. Empower yourself
Wear things, bring things with you, look at photos on your phone that make you feel like Superwoman. Wear that Milk Maker tee, pull out that Boobs Baby Blanket, trust me, it makes a WORLD of difference.

You’ve got this, Mama
