2 Common Skin Care Ingredients That Are Actually Toxic
1. FRAGRANCE — Legally, fragrances can be kept “proprietary” or secret. We don’t think that’s fair to our customers, so we share as much as we can with you about our fragrance blends. They’re 100% natural and made with pure essential oils and extracts from plants. But most products on the shelf, including baby products, contain synthetic fragrances. With tons of studies to back it up, fragrances “have been associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system.” (ewg.org) EWG labels fragrances as an 8/10, which tells us it’s something to steer clear of. You won’t find synthetic fragrances in Tubby Todd products — ever.
2. PARABENS — Parabens have been used in many skincare products since the 1950s, but studies show they’re not the best choice as a preservative. Parabens score a 7/10 on EWG.org because they mimic estrogen — they’ve been found in breast tumors and have been linked to reproductive issues, early onset puberty, and low sperm count. Tons of reasons to avoid them. (Good news! You won’t find parabens in Tubby Todd.)
